Makkiya Albanna

The Community Action Organization of Western New York is a place where love, empathy, and support thrive, with our dedicated employees at the heart of it all. "Our school serves as a beacon of hope for many families," says Makkiya Albanna, whose inspiring journey with CAO began in 1994.

Starting as a substitute when her children attended Head Start, Makkiya's dedication and passion led her through various roles, from a family partner to a teacher, and finally to a principal. As a single mom of six, she experienced firsthand the transformative power of the agency's support, helping her build a better life for her family and community.

Despite her countless responsibilities, Makkiya finds motivation in the smiles of the children and the positive stories from families. "You have to really know that you love what you do," she says. "You're not here for a paycheck, but to truly make a difference in the lives of the people we serve."

The family-centered approach of CAO of WNY sets it apart. Staff members often begin as parents or students, fostering an atmosphere of understanding and empathy. Makkiya and her team know the importance of patience, support, and non-judgment in helping families in need.

Looking to the future, Makkiya envisions continued growth for the school and expanded services, such as ESL classes, to further support the community. CAO of WNY is more than an organization – it's a family, a support system, and a place where dreams are nurtured and brought to life.

Thank you, Makkiya Albanna, for your unwavering dedication and for making a difference in countless lives through the CAO of WNY.
